ABSTRACT
Abstract Large-scale farming of Undaria pinnatifida is conducted in northern China. Conspicuous natural populations this alga are distributed on rocky shores region. However, the genetic relationship between U. from China and native other countries remains largely uncertain. We obtained sequences for mitochondrial cox3 tatC–tLeu regions internal transcribed spacer one nuclear ribosomal DNA representative farmed analyzed diversity, evaluated Chinese Japanese Korean populations. The revealed high diversity most Unique haplotypes were detected Gouqi Island population consistent with historical records a island. Phylogenetic analyses derived that samples classifiable as Continental Northern Japan types. All reefs grouped type all type. Mitochondrial significant differentiation adjacent reefs, agreement previous results using microsatellites.
