Assessment of health-related quality of life in Egyptian adolescents with type 1 diabetes: DEMPU survey

ABSTRACT
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a serious chronic illness that imposes significant morbidity and mortality with major impact on the quality of life (QoL) became core issue in care. Understanding effect QoL important for day-to-day clinical management also public health policy initiatives aiming at improving outcomes those diabetes. The objective study was to assess adolescents T1D applicability use "Quality Life Youth" questionnaire Diabetes, Endocrine Metabolism Pediatric Unit (DEMPU) clinic.One hundred fifty (82 males 68 females) (10-18 years), least years' duration, completed evaluated symptoms related diabetes, treatment, activities, parent issues, worries about perception. Higher scores indicated more negative poorer QoL.Males showed significantly better mean score than females (p=0.004). Different age groups different (p=0.047). Urban had rural counterparts (p=0.02). Adolescents poor generally lower educational level Better metabolic control associated (p=0.01). However, duration body mass index (BMI) no statistically QoL.QoL variable association certain socio-demographic characteristics diabetics (sex, residence, as well control).
