First report on the nationwide prevalence of paediatric type 1 diabetes in Serbia and temporal trends of diabetes ketoacidosis at diagnosis—a multicentre study

ABSTRACT
Abstract We aimed to collect data on all paediatric patients who were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) between the years 2000 and 2019 in Serbia estimate for first time its prevalence. Also, trends of ketoacidosis (DKA) occurrence at diagnosis are monitored. collected retrospectively analysed <19 newly T1DM. T1DM was 3134 (53.2% male). Total number youth 1735 prevalence 135.25/100000 end study period. most frequently ages 5 11 (42.1%). At diagnosis, 35.7% presented DKA. The incidence severity DKA more significant youngest age (p<0.001). There annual percentage increase (2.2%) new cases (p=0.007). Conclusion: This report nationwide shows that is among countries high youth. System changes needed order provide better quality health care these patients.
