Assessing the active living environment in three rural towns with a high proportion of Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders

ABSTRACT
Background: Existing literature on the built environment and physical activity in rural areas is very limited. Studies have shown that residents are less likely to meet requirements than their counterparts living urban suburban areas. They also access amenities programs promote activity. This study seeks fill gaps by assessing three towns Hawaiʻi a high proportion of Native Hawaiians other Pacific Islanders. Methods: The Rural Active Living Assessment (RALA) tools will be used assess environment. RALA has components – Policy Program (PPA), Town Wide (TWA), Street Segment (SSA) which provide comprehensive assessment active Assessments were completed September October 2016. Results: One was each town for TWA PPA. SSA with 60 segments (20 from town). Conclusion: identified supports these towns. barriers especially school polices town.
