ABSTRACT
Abstract With the increasing attention to preventive maintenance and rehabilitation of asphalt pavement, emulsions have gained popularity. Synchronous chip seal (SCS) slurry (SS) are widely used in pavement preservation due their low cost efficiency but not prevalent new construction, especially for airport pavement. The objective this study was characterize functional layers combined SS through conventional test methods emulsions, binders, seals, including setting time, residual amount on sieve 16 mesh, Engler viscosity, standard residue content, penetration, ductility, failure temperature, wet track abrasion test, load wheel test. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) also conducted explore energy differences amongst various emulsions. In addition, trial pavements were tested laboratory field evaluate waterproof performances layers. results material tests showed that SS-1 SCS-2 optimum met requirement standards emphasized importance compaction during construction.
