ABSTRACT
The cerebellum funnels its entire output through a small number of presumed glutamatergic premotor projection neurons in the deep cerebellar nuclei and GABAergic that feed back to inferior olive. Here we use transgenic mice selectively expressing green fluorescent protein glycinergic demonstrate many medial (fastigial) are fact glycinergic, not as previously thought. These exhibit similar firing properties neighboring receive direct input from both Purkinje cells excitatory fibers. Glycinergic fastigial make functional projections vestibular reticular ipsilateral brainstem, whereas their counterparts project contralaterally. Together, these data suggest can influence motor outputs via two distinct complementary pathways.
