ABSTRACT
Nogo-A is a neurite growth inhibitor involved in regenerative failure and restriction of structural plasticity the adult CNS. Three major protein products (Nogo-A, -B, -C) are derived from thenogo gene. Here we describe embryonic postnatal expression three Nogo isoforms rat by in situ hybridization immunohistochemistry. Northern Western blot analysis indicated that predominantly expressed nervous system with lower levels also present testis heart. In CNS myelin, confocal immunoelectron microscopy revealed oligodendrocyte cell bodies processes localized innermost adaxonal outermost myelin membranes. Additionally, find to be projection neurons, particular during development, postmitotic cells developing cortex, spinal cord, cerebellum. The Nogo-A/B were not changed significantly after traumatic lesions cortex or cord. Nogo-B showed widespread central peripheral systems other tissues. Nogo-C was mainly found skeletal muscle, but brain heart express this isoform. localization oligodendrocytes fits well its role as myelin-associated fiber plasticity. However, tissues and, particular, neurons two shorter isoforms, -C, suggest family proteins might have function(s) additional growth-inhibitory activity.
