ABSTRACT
Objective: The study focuses on whether substance abuse patients who enter a community residential facility (CRF) after discharge from inpatient care obtain more outpatient mental health and have lower readmission rates than comparable discharged directly to the community. Method: A national sample of (N = 5,176; 99% men) referred CRFs is compared matched Results: Compared with controls, CRF were likely aftercare obtained intensive care. Patients longer episodes had 6-month 1-year dropped out controls. These findings held for only alcohol diagnoses, drug diagnoses psychiatric in addition their disorders. Longer length significant predictors other risk factors controlled.
