ABSTRACT
Progesterone and luteal blood flow effects of an i.u. 2-h infusion 0.25 mg/h prostaglandin F(2)(alpha) (PGF) that simulated a natural pulse 13,14-dihydro-15-keto-PGF (PGFM) were compared to the single bolus injection PGF (4 mg) induced complete luteolysis in heifers. Blood sampling estimate percentage area with colour-Doppler signals performed every 2 min for 20 less frequently thereafter 6 h. After beginning or injection, progesterone increased peak at 14 10 respectively, was accompanied by increase group but not group. then decreased 1 h continued elevation slight rebounded both groups, rebound greater during descending arm rebound. Cortisol prolactin began after did infusion. The increases cortisol, treatment PGFM indicated pharmacologic, its use may lead faulty conclusions on nature physiologic luteolysis. comparisons between are novel.
