ABSTRACT

Background: Supraventricular cardiac arrhythmias are the most common rhythm disturbances in patients following thoracic surgery. The purpose of our study was to determine which clinical parameters valuable predicting postoperative atrial fibrillation (AF) after lung surgery.

Methods: Retrospective analysis carried out on 987 noncardiac surgery define prevalence, associated risk factors, and course arrhythmias. There were 822 men 165 women, age 34 78 years (mean age: 61 8 years). divided into two groups depending occurrence or absence supraventricular arrhythmia. Group I consisted 876 who free from disturbances. remaining 111 exhibited episodes arrhythmia (29 tachycardia; 82 AF). These placed II. Preoperative, operative, data reviewed. Statistical performed.

Results: A statistically significant difference found between age, previous history heart disease, resection, especially pneumonectomy. Conclusion: Age, prior extent pulmonary resection main factors for undergoing major operations.
