Hearing Loss in Infants With Persistent Fetal Circulation

ABSTRACT
Infants with the diagnosis of persistent fetal circulation were evaluated for hearing loss. From Jan 1, 1982, to 1984, 28 infants this retrospectively identified, and 18 by formal audiologic testing. Additionally, 22 prospectively followed serial auditory evaluation from 1986. Of 40 evaluated, 21 identified as having impairment (52.5%), 14 whom required aids. For 82% those hearing-impaired who aids, parental concern was expressed their lack acuity. This factor could have aided in earlier recognition these infants' impairment. Among prospectively, testing, some cases serially, needed diagnose a progressive loss that at 6 8 months after discharge neonatal intensive care unit. Perinatal factors associated development management compared comfirmed normal hearing. Variables related follows: degree alkalosis, duration ventilation, possibly use furosemide. We concluded results an extremely high incidence sensorineural suggest evaluations aid detection infants.
