Pediatricians and Sleep Disorders: Training and Practice

ABSTRACT
A series of studies were conducted to investigate pediatricians' training, knowledge, and practices regarding sleep disorders in children adolescents.Study 1, a national survey 156 pediatric residency programs, found that pediatricians receive mean 4.8 hours instruction on disorders, although the mode median is 0 hours. In study 2, 88 completing questionnaire concerning general knowledge about adolescents received score 71.8% (range, 40% 93%). Pediatricians appear know most developmental issues hygiene least specific such as narcolepsy parasomnias. third study, 183 surveyed their actual beliefs young children's problems. Together, those reported approximately 25% patients experience some type problem. Most recommend behavioral interventions, 14.8% report prescribing pharmacological treatments, 48.9% inform parents child likely outgrow problem.The results these support need for more education within medical schools, practicing community.
