ABSTRACT
The purpose of this work was to determine if the occupational exposure those pesticides used at banana plantations’ packaging plants produces genetic damage somatic cells female workers. Chromosomal aberrations were scored in lymphocytes 20 women, 10 exposed workers and controls. Workers recruited from independent farms two locations Costa Rica, during January through June 1996 1997. These females had a minimum three months work, never received chemotherapy or radiotherapy did some these labors: sealing, spraying weighting bananas. Control unexposed lived same area, similar age neither them nor their husbands/mates ever worked pesticide related labors. For each female, 100 mitotic figures scored. kind detected acentric fragments, dicentric chromosomes, rings, gaps breaks. Among workers, 16% (n=1000) one more abnormalities, whereas control 6% with comparable anomalies (p<0.05). In conclusion, is risk factor for chromosome
