ABSTRACT
The ovarian activity of Agouti paca was characterized by hormonal profiles and structures. Samples blood were taken from eight females (seven adults one juvenile) at the breeding grounds Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia in Yucatśn, Mexico. Sampling lasted approximately two months done every three six days. Blood collected anesthetized animals, levels progesterone (P4) 17 beta estradiol (E2) analized radioimmunoassay technique. Macroscopic microscopic analyses carried out ovaries dead animals. estrous cycle 29+/-8.4 days, 1.61+/-0.65 ng/ml for P4 39+/-24 pg/ml E2 observed a follicular phase, 6.18+/-3.70 29+/-16 respectively luteal phase. Statistically significant differences found between phases but not E2. presence extragonadal steroids with 1.9+/-0.77 22+/-17 observed, which are produced effects managing stress. changes during indicators activity, intersticial tissue acting probably as active steroids-producing gland. Follicular growth entire cycle.
