ABSTRACT
Poincianella bracteosa (Tul.) L.P. Queiroz. (Fabaceae), known as catingueira, is traditionally used in medicine to treat catarrhal infections, diarrhea, hepatitis and anemia. However, there are no studies on toxicogenetics effects of P. bracteosa. The present study aimed investigate the phytochemical profile well mutagenic antimutagenic potential aqueous barks extract Allium cepa Mus musculus. Barks from were collected Teresina (PI, Brazil) male Swiss mice (Mus musculus) provided by vivarium Faculty Medical Sciences (FACIME) Brazil). All procedures using animals approved Ethics Committee Use Animals (Protocol No. 07557/15) with five groups (five per group). was diluted distilled water yield four concentrations (2, 4, 8 16 mg/mL) A. bioassay three doses (10, 20 40 mg/Kg) administered mice. performed colorimetric test identify main secondary metabolites extract. After treatment, roots washed hydrolyzed (60°C) for 10 min. hydrolysis, stained Schiff's reagent (2 h) dark. Five thousand meristematic cells (ten slides) analyzed determine mitotic index, mean number chromosome alterations percentage damage reduction. For mice, after 24, 48 72 h, blood tail each animal preparation two slides animal. Slides dried (24 h), fixed methanol (5 min.), Giemsa (15 min.) water. assay, 2,000 normochromatic erythrocytes evaluated establish micronuclei protective effect. data Kruskal-Wallis (p < 0.05). Phytochemical detected reducing sugars tannins. Probably, phytochemicals did not interfere cell cycle (A. cepa) nor caused DNA mice), exhibited effect both studied species. observed indicate importance bark inhibition chemoprevention. more should be carried out ensure its genetic material.
