ABSTRACT
In this paper, we demonstrate environmental monitoring in a young citizen science project. The dynamics of urban tree phenology and microclimate regulation throughout the growing season is measured cross-city approach, along intra- inter-urban gradients for set most common species. We equipped trees five European cities with beacons that connect via Bluetooth to tailor-made app. app used phenological monitoring, display measurements, broadcast information on trees' microclimate-regulating ecosystem services. approach setting are scalable other citizen-engagement VGI projects. It fosters an understanding how sync climate, deepens our systemic feedback, which key implementing management. Results show inter-species differences length as measures delivery regulatory services responses heat island intensity.
