ABSTRACT

Objectives:
To evaluate the accuracy and efficacy of fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in diagnosing thyroid nodules, correlating it with histopathological findings.
Methods:
A retrospective evaluation 314 patients was undertaken at a tertiary referral center King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC), Makkah, Kingdom Saudi Arabia, between 2010-2019. Patients who presented swellings underwent ultrasonography FNAC. If indicated, surgery performed. The FNAC findings were compared to final reports.
Results:
for from our data set showed sensitivity value 79.8%, specificity 82.1%, 74.8%, positive predictive negative 85.9%.
Conclusion:
Our study that has high initial nodules. When guided by ultrasonography, can be markedly improved. Molecular markers once widely available improve diagnostic power no less than histopathologic tissue.
