ABSTRACT
Abstract Ralstonia pickettii is an opportunistic bacterium found in the water environment with increasing incidence as a nosocomial pathogen. The objectives of this study were to describe R. bacteremia cardiac surgery patient and evaluate its ability grow saline solution form biofilm. underwent mitral aortic valve replacement two aortocoronary bypasses. She developed signs respiratory renal failure, therefore hemodialysis was started. After 25 days intensive care unit, had recurrent episodes fever bacteremia. identified from blood cultures by MALDI-TOF MS. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing performed using disc diffusion broth microdilution methods accordance EUCAST methodology results interpreted following clinical breakpoints for Pseudomonas spp. isolate susceptible all tested antimicrobial agents except aminoglycosides colistin. Survival analyzed four different starting concentrations at °C 37 six days. Biofilm capacity microtiter plate method. showed substantial growth solution, concentration 2 CFU ml −1 reaching 10 7 after There no significant difference between °C. This indicates that storage contaminated solutions room temperature can enhance count . Our strain did not show responded well adequate treatment ceftazidime, 48 ICU she discharged convalesce.
