ABSTRACT
Accurate identification of Mitis group streptococci especially Streptococcus pneumoniae and pseudopneumoniae seems difficult due to the lack specific sensitive tests. We performed an approach for atypical pneumococci in pediatric Tunisian population. In this study, 49 streptococcal isolates that were considered as S. analyzed by: optochin susceptibility ambient 5% CO2 atmosphere, oxgall disk sensitivity, PCR targeting several genes antimicrobial susceptibility. The combined results biochemical molecular methods showed presence 23 pneumoniae, 7 pseudopneumoniae, 19 other mitis group. Among all collected from respiratory tract samples a high level resistance β-lactams with MIC90 32 mg L-1. Two typical phenotype described literature. All could be identified only by pneumonaie, strains harbored lytA gene Spn9802 fragment. But 14 encapsulated. This study describes assays order gain insights on nature isolate raise alert about these community.
