ABSTRACT
Smilax goyazana is a dioicous species occurring very commonly in the Brazilian cerrado vegetation. Leaves from male and female plants were compared size anatomical structure. No differences found. Female presented higher stomatal density than ones. All other qualitative quantitative parameters did not show related to sex. The leaf blade amphistomatous. Only spongy mesophyll present. In midrib, there are three vascular bundles that fuse into one bundle about second third of foliar length. Idioblasts containing calcium oxalate occur randomly petiole blade. starch or tannins evidenced. Nervation acrodromous. S. presents structures similar Smilacaceae, however, whole, it distinctive characteristics genus.
