Prevalence of Thyroid Dysfunction in Young Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Eastern India, Study of 120 Cases from a Tertiary Care Hospital

ABSTRACT
Objective.The association between thyroid dysfunction and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus has been reported in several studies.This study was done to explore the prevalence of young (<40 years) patients with type Eastern India.Methododology.A retrospective chart review 120 done.120 (male 81, female 39) age <40 years, who fulfilled diagnostic criteria for according ADA (American Association) were enrolled investigated through performance Thyroid Function Tests (FT4,TSH).Results.Of (of less than 40 years age), 65.83% had biochemical features dysfunction.In descending order frequency, we found subclinical hypothyroidism 43.33% cases (defined by no symptoms or clinical but TSH level range above 5 miu/ml below 10 normal FT4 level), followed 9.2% overt (either >10 normal), 8.3% hyperthyroidism (only biochemically low <0.34 this study) 5% show (clinical well along TSH). Conclusion.A high DM suggests evaluation disorder proper management.
