This Personal View describes the experience of Southern Illinois University School Medicine (SIUSOM) with AMEE Programme for International Recognition Excellence in Education (ASPIRE) awards program. Institutional leaders considering applying may need something more than program description to take plunge. We use narrative present our reasons applying, how application and review process went us, benefits getting involved. By sharing story, we hope motivate other educators who believe their school's educational excellence visualize themselves applicants action.</ns4:p>
