ABSTRACT
Objective: To construct, validate, and apply a questionnaire to assess characterize the practice of self-medication performed by parents or children's guardians undergoing dental care. Material Methods: A was constructed, validated, applied through personal interviews in teaching clinics two higher education institutions Federal District. Absolute relative frequencies categorical variables were calculated using descriptive statistics. Quantitative data presented as mean standard deviation. The chi-square test measured association between studied self-medication. Results: One hundred five participants interviewed August 2019 November 2020. average age 37 (± 9) years, most mothers children who attended (78%) users public health system (94.2%). family income 1.88 minimum wage, prevalent educational level complete high school (40%). Conclusion: Despite knowledge about medication safety children, practiced 50% them. Difficulty accessing treatment mentioned justification. Self-medication associated with pain, continuous use, habits.
