ABSTRACT
A total of 284 fecal samples 89 species (43 mammalian and 46 avian species) were examined for Cryptosporidium oocysts Giardia cysts from 1999 to 2002. Each sample was collected at the zoo located Osaka in Japan by microscopy after performing sucrose flotation method two immunofluorescent assay kits detection cysts. spp. found only a raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides), detected mandarin duck (Aix galericulata) ruddy shelducks (Tadorna ferruginea). In this study, prevalences these parasites be low. However, results suggested that infected animals could serve as source contamination surface water. This is first report about survey Japan.
