ABSTRACT
A 10-yr-old male gorilla (Gorilla gorilla) with a history of conspecific bite wounds was evaluated for acute onset depression, anorexia, and right hemiparesis. The animal immobilized diagnostic examination treatment suspected toxic shock from necrotizing, emphysematous wound infection, but euthanized due to complications during recovery. Gross histopathologic revealed necrotizing myositis, fasciitis, cellulitis, emphysema in the affected area, large numbers Gram-positive rods among necrotic muscle fibers. Severe pulmonary edema airways containing fibrin, hemorrhage multiple body sites, thrombosis blood vessels skeletal muscle, liver, lung, lymph node hyperplasia lymphoid necrosis hemorrhage. Immunohistochemical fluorescent antibody staining site positive Clostridium septicum.
