The world's longest span swing bridge was opened on 14 November 2001 by President Mubarak of Egypt. combined road and rail crosses the Suez Canal close to Egyptian town Ismailia. adopted solution, based an illustrative design provided client, National Railways, is a double with steel truss superstructure 340 m between pivot pier centrelines. total weight 13 200 t. This paper describes procurement, construction this unusual project.
