ABSTRACT
Whether to deploy left-turn waiting areas (LTWAs) in arterial coordination remains debated as the required fixed phasing sequences may constrain signal flexibility. To fill this gap, a Vissim-based corridor synchronisation performance tool (V-CSPT) was developed based on timing measure methodology evaluate impacts of LTWAs coordination. This enables collection vehicle trajectories from microscopic traffic simulation software, facilitating analysis and evaluation. assess coordination, case study conducted an with Wuhan city, China. The results indicated that did not deteriorate operations system under adequately designed plans, could reduce probability queue overflow subsequent negative effects through traffic. According analysis, there no difference between deploying LTWAs. Compared scenarios without LTWAs, delays were reduced by 35.65% 23.94% stop ratio 8.28% 1.01%. In addition, it found V-CSPT simplify measurement process potentially costs.
