Fishes of the river Padma, Bangladesh: Current trend and conservation status

ABSTRACT
The Padma River is one of the longest rivers and it believed to be an important spawning feeding ground for riverine fish species Bangladesh. This study was conducted from February 2013 January 2014 with a view revealing diversity fauna in river. A total 71 were recorded belonging 10 orders, 26 families 54 genera. most dominant order Cypriniformes contributing 28 16 Cyprinidae family 23 Four alien found. Twenty eight have been considered threatened by IUCN These fishes following categories, Vulnerable (13%), Endangered (18%) Critically (8%). Comparing results previous findings, revealed that declined over time. Considering all findings concluded could refuge conservation freshwater efforts should ensure minimization anthropogenic impacts, especially fishing pressure introduction invasive species.
