Forest fire risk zones delimited with the Normalized Differentiated Burning Radius (DNBR) in the Sierra Norte of Oaxaca, Mexico

ABSTRACT
Background: Forest fires play a crucial role in ecosystem dynamics, bringing both positive and negative effects that significantly impact areas like the Sierra Norte de Oaxaca (SNO). Question: What levels of severity most influence distribution trees forest? Studied species: Temperate species. Study area: Oaxaca, Norte, January - December 2023 Methods: Data reported by CONAFOR from 1992 to 2020 was utilized. Spatial analysis conducted using Normalized Burning Index with SENTINEL satellite images SNO. Variables related human activities, such as transportation routes population, were included index. A total 151 fire records collected 2006 2020. Results: Ixtlán had highest number during evaluated period. The forest risk index indicated largest area at Very High is located Mixe district, highlighting need for decision-makers focus efforts on this region. Conclusions: distributed so it important decision makers study area.
