ABSTRACT
Caffeine is a highly consumed stimulant of the nervous system. Although caffeine has diverse effects on different brain functions, little known about specific pharmacokinetics this substance in brain. For instance, most studies that assessed distribution rat have only measured levels cortex and striatum but not more areas.Aims: The purpose work was to measure concentration blood regions (i.e. cortex, striatum, hippocampus, cerebellum brainstem) at times after administration single intraperitoneal dose caffeine. Methods: Adult Wistar rats (250 300 gr) were injected with 30 mg/ Kg caffeine. 20, 40, 60 80 minutes administration, subjects sacrificed by decapitation samples plasma, cerebral brainstem obtained. each structure RP-HPLC statistical analysis performed. Results: higher plasma compared all structures studied. Different displayed similar concentrations. regions, maximal reached first 40 administration. Conclusions: results support previous show between also extend other structures. Furthermore, increases similarly almost two than This suggests functions do depend pharmacokinetic differences areas are rather explained pharmacodynamics.
