ABSTRACT
In this study, chitosan was synthesised from chitin and used to modify polyethersulphone (PES) membrane prepared by the phase inversion method. PES blended with various concentrations of produce PES/0.5 wt% chitosan, PES/0.75 PES/1 membranes. The membranes were tested for metal sulphate removal acid mine drainage (AMD). fabricated characterised using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), contact angle analyser, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), porosity determination pure water flux measurements. Separation performance conducted on a dead-end filtration cell ions determined atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), ultraviolet visible (UV-vis) spectrophotometry sulphates. Pure pristine increased 102 L∙m−2∙h−1 107 133 wt%, respectively. Further addition 1 created dense structure surface, thereby reducing 120 L∙m−2∙h−1. rejection cations significantly improved chitosan-modified due creation adsorptive and/or repulsive sites biopolymer as result amine group protonation. results reveal that has potential improve hydrophilic agent during AMD treatment.
