Ethnobotanical study of the rural population in the limits of the Pampa plain (Argentina)

ABSTRACT
This paper is an ethnobotanical study of cattle farming in the western Pampa region Argentina, arid with very scarce rainfall and a population consisting mainly Criollo farmers. A total 68 rural settlers were interviewed, providing information on 69 specific infraspecific taxa. Plants classified into following categories according to use: forage, toxic species or adverse effects animals, use constructions, tools, those veterinary applications. Data include native, naturalized cultivated species. They revealed diverse group forage plants, type livestock, few plants. Veterinary applications related first aid cases. In construction, plants mostly used for fencing paddocks corrals. The results this show acute level perception detailed knowledge plant environment held by community relation their main economic activity.
