ABSTRACT
In this article we aim to understand the transformations of rational number representations carried out by students and their mathematical reasoning processes. We report part a Design Based Research, within which an intervention was in class with 25 teacher, grades 3 4. analyze six classroom episodes three main moments concerning construction understanding numbers. The results indicate that both processes have intricate bidirectional relation, one fostering other. Students treatments conversions, including conversions between also compositions different representations. Regarding processes, formulated solving strategies, conjectures justifications. conclude social interactions were crucial for doing engaging
