ABSTRACT
This paper reviewed the research progress on abnormal temperature rise (ATR) of composite insulator. The ATR insulator can be divided into two types, pointform (PFTR) and bar-form (BFTR). insulators with PFTR only show significant at high relative humidity (RH>70%), locates in area that 20 cm above metal end-fitting. In low environment (RH 70%) (<30%) RH. might reach more than 10 °C was wider, extending from high-voltage end to several sheds units low-voltage side. And GRP core found corroded. heating energy supplied by both conductance loss polarization corroded core. decay-like degradation caused combination damp condition, electric field, discharge, mechanical load, et al may evolve fracture preventive methods concerning quality control, structure optimization, material modification operation strategy were put forward. It suggested when detected insulator, inspection period should shortened properly. replaced as soon BFTR detected.
