MIDDLE-LATE PERMIAN AND EARLY TRIASSIC FORAMINIFERAL ASSEMBLAGES IN THE WESTERN SALT RANGE, PAKISTAN

ABSTRACT
A newly obtained foraminiferal assemblage from the Guadalupian−Lopingian, and Induan of Western Salt Range (Pakistan) comprises 47 species (including 7 fusulinoideans) 24 genera 71 9 41 genera, in Nammal Zaluch sections, respectively. Our results show that only 4 went extinct during Guadalupian−Lopingian mass extinction (GLME), suggesting GLME was minor for smaller foraminifers Range. Most Permian-Triassic (PTME), except two survivor Nodosinelloides Planiinvoluta. During end-Permian extinction, majorities became lower part Chhidru Formation, beacuse they are not tolerant to terigenious-clastic input upper Formation. The process sections has been documented first time. Five assemblages established shallow marine shelf deposits Range, i.e., Wordian Geinitzina araxensis tide-influenced subaqueous delta middle environment, Capitanian Baisalina pulchra Wuchiapingian Codonofusiella schubertellinoides inner-outer carbonate deposits, Changhsingian Colaniella pseudolepida Nodosinelloides-Planiinvoluta mixed siliciclastic–carbonate setting. have wide geographic distribution found Transcaucasus, China, Turkey, Crimea Oman. other three (i.e., araxensis, pseudolepida, assemblages) this study likely local/regional assemblages. were observed with standard microscopic system Leica-DM500. total 681 specimens reported Group Mianwali Formation sections. hundred ninety-nine recovered. Among foraminifera, Nodosinelloides, Pachyphloia, Geinitzina, Colaniella, Hemigordius, Tuberitina, Langella most dominant genera. Larger foraminifera include Nankinella, Codonofusiella, Reichelina, Necdetina Pisolina, represented by 82 specimens. 3 classes (e.g., Nodosariata, Fusulinata, Tubothalamea) seven orders Miliolida, Spirillinida, Lagenida, Parathuramminida, Endothyrida, Fusulinida, Earlandiida) identified current study. them, Lagenida becomes diversity abundance. Shannon indices rise progressively sediments before dropping zero Early Triassic deposits.
