ABSTRACT
To date it’s proved that the elevated homocysteine levels in the blood is an independent risk factor for a number of diseases. The animal model of rare severe form of hyperhomocysteinemia may be necessary to study aspects of homocysteine participation in damage of organs and tissues in various diseases because the effects of this pathogenetic factor will be most pronounced in such conditions. This article describes a technique for modeling in male Wistar rats a severe form of hyperhomocysteinemia by a three-week intragastric administration of methionine suspension with the addition of this amino acid in the drinking water.
