A Case of Deep Cutaneous Purpureocillium lilacinum Fungal Infection in an Immunocompetent Patient

ABSTRACT
Purpureocillium is a genus of saprophytic fungi that commonly found in soil or rotting material. Although rarely pathogen humans, it can cause serious infections immunocompromized patients. An 85-year-old woman presented with 2-week history pruritic erythematous plaques yellowish crusts on her right forearm and dorsal hand. Histopathological analysis identified fungal hyphae spores the dermis, lilacinum was through tissue culture, polymerase chain reaction, DNA sequencing. The skin lesion barely responded to 4 weeks itraconazole treatment but improved upon addition terbinafine. completely cured after 12 weeks, no recurrence date. Here, we report rare deep cutaneous infection caused by P. an immunocompetent patient postulate that, this case, patient's agricultural lifestyle increased possibility infection.
