ABSTRACT
<p>RESUMEN: Durante el Antiguo Régimen, la geografía y climatología del Principado de Asturias hizo mar su principal vía comunicación. Junto con los grandes puertos Gijón o Avilés coexistían otras poblaciones marítimas «menores» que compaginaban aprovechamiento recursos les ofrecía agricultura. Este es caso villa Candás, capital concejo Carreño, durante siglo XVI destacó por ser un importante puerto pesca ballenera, muy conocido en Europa norteña.
