Pleural plaques and pleural changes among lung cancer patients exposed to asbestos

ABSTRACT
BackgroundIndonesia is one of the world's largest asbestos importing countries. While main contributor to work-related lung cancer, studies or reports regarding CT findings asbestos-related cancer have been limited in country. The objective this study was compare size tumor and pleural parenchymal changes between patients exposed asbestosis those not exposed. MethodsThis cross-sectional involved 96 consisting 48 subjects who had They underwent thoracic scans at Radiology Department Persahabatan Hospital. Asbestos exposure determined using interviews that followed a protocol similar previous about cancer. Senior radiologists investigated existence changes. An independent T- test chi-square scan features two groups. ResultsThe mean age 57.75 ± 8.56 years asbestos-exposed group 58.56 7.99 unexposed group. proportion sizes more than five cm, plaques, subpleural dot-like branching opacities were significantly higher among compared non-exposed (p = 0.044;p=0.37;p=0.041, respectively). ConclusionsAsbestos related plaques asbestosis. These may help further management policy use Indonesia.
