ABSTRACT
Deposits of corundum in the region Manhuaçu–Caratinga, eastern Minas Gerais, are described termsof geology, economic potential, mineralogy and chemistry. The alluvial colluvial deposits Indaiá,Sapucaia, Caputira Palmeira found within high grade metamorphic terrains, belonging to Juizde Fora Mantiqueira complexes, cut by pegmatites as well mafic rocks. Gemmological characterizationin terms mineral color inclusions indicate a good potential gemstone studiedcorundum. identification study crystal chemistry led theinterpretation origin for corundum. similar geology Manhuaçu-Caratingaarea where important ruby sapphire from Sri Lanka suggests thatnew might be discovered Gerais.
