ABSTRACT
Trachyspermum ammi (L.) Sprague (commonly known as ajwain) contains ingredients that attenuate menstrual problems, especially cramping. In this study, we evaluated the impact of ajwain on pain intensity in a sample Iranian female college students with primary dysmenorrhea (PD) comparison to mefenamic acid (MFA). This study was an open-label, randomized, parallel-group clinical trial conducted university dormitories Tehran, Iran, from September 2018 May 2019. Seventy patients were randomly assigned two groups and MFA. The participants group treated 500 mg capsule three times day for seven days, 26th cycle 3rd cycle, consecutive periods. other received MFA capsules first dose then 250 every eight hours, if necessary, cycle. compared terms by visual analog scale (VAS) pre-intervention cycles during study. Maximum intensity, mean pain, duration after intervention significantly reduced both groups. VAS score decreased post-intervention (p < 0.02). Moreover, passing blood clots 0.03). findings suggest may be effective relief PD without adverse effects.
