ABSTRACT
AIM: To evaluate the etiological and demographic characteristics treatment processes of patients with trauma-induced elevated intraocular pressure (IOP).
MATHERIAL AND METHOD: We retrospectively analysed 191 IOP after trauma between 1990 2018. Demographic characteristics, type trauma, cause glaucoma, lens status, visual acuity, IOP, other ocular findings, medical and/or surgical treatments follow-up periods were recorded.
RESULTS: A total 148 (77.5%) males 43 (22.5%) females a mean age 29.68±19.47 years analysed. Mean period was 158±23.73 months. The blunt in 171 (89.5%) open 20 (10.5%). interval elevation 78 days (3 days-5 years). Glaucoma due to angle regression 89 (46.6%), hyphema (40.8%), lens-related 24 (12.6%) causes 3 (1.54%) patients. Lens damage, need for intervention more common injuries. 72% able achieve appropriate observation alone without surgery. Trabeculectomy most preferred effective method both groups.
CONCLUSION: development glaucoma is an essential factor affecting prognosis. Early diagnosis might be challenging proportion severity involvement. However, not all elevations may glaucomatous transient could monitored medication. In our study, frequency posttraumatic higher men young people. This related exposure indicated population. Blunt traumas frequently. contrast, surgery frequent Angle recession glaucuma. Therefore, assessment necessary possible cases. status will affect prognosis choice Regular crucial detection secondary since develop late post-traumatic period. Keywords: Ocular traumatic
