ABSTRACT
This paper examines the effect of aggregate type on concrete strength and more specifically how petrographic characteristics various rocks as well their physico-mechanical properties influences durability C 25/30 class concrete. The studied are derived from Veria-Naousa Edessa ophiolitic complexes granodiorite albitite surrounding areas in central Macedonia (Greece). Concretes produced with constant volume proportions, workability, mixing curing conditions using different sizes each type. Aggregates were mixed both dry water saturated states concretes. Six types aggregates examined classified three district groups according to physicomechanical properties, surface texture. classification after compressive test verified initial same groups. Group I (ultramafic rocks) presents lowest strengths, depending high alteration degree low mechanical ultramafic aggregates. II (mafic granodiorite) a wide range properties. III (albite highest Therefore mineralogy microstructure coarse affects final specimens.
