ABSTRACT
Pig slaughtering methods influence the quality of pig products and also serves as a critical point for control zoonosis other food-borne infections. This study aimed at assessing peculiarities, animal welfare concerns public health implications activities was conducted on three major abattoirs in Southwestern Nigeria.Information pre-slaughter handling, carcass processing were obtained by observation over continuous 2-week period normal abattoir each authors. Structured questionnaires administered focus group interviews to obtain information from workers officials. Data analyzed using descriptive statistics.The locations vary considerably with some identified areas which include inhumane transportation, restraining, lairaging, stunning practices.s. These amount excessive stress poor welfare. The findings floor slaughtering, inadequate water supply, biological intrusions, environmental hygiene, waste disposal failure use protective clothing. are discussed.
