ABSTRACT
Background: Percutaneous closure of residual ventricular septal defects (VSDs) after congenital heart surgery may provide a safer and more efficient alternative to redo surgery. This study aimed evaluate the outcome transcatheter postoperative VSD. Methods: multicenter retrospective cohort was conducted at tertiary care institutions King Faisal Specialist Hospital Abdulaziz University Hospital, Saudi Arabia, from March 2012 2022. All patients who underwent VSD were included. As catheter related surgical patches is challenging, divided into two groups. Group 1 comprised with patches, while 2 included muscular Various occluders approaches utilized based on patient's weight type, size, proximity cardiac valves. Demographic, echocardiographic, catheterization, data collected analyzed using descriptive comparative statistics. Results: Thirty-three 37 procedures. Twenty-two procedures done close patch, fifteen for additional The median age 3.3 years, interquartile range (IQR) ranged between 9 months 7 years. 13.1 kilograms, an IQR 5.1 16.8 kilograms. pulmonary systemic flow ratio (QP/QS) 1.6 1.5 2.44; systolic pressure 46 mmHg 32 54 mmHg. procedure duration 120 minutes, 90 160 minutes. Patients in older had lower mean than (P=0.02, P=0.007, respectively). Of procedures, 35 (94.6%) successfully, due failed (one device embolization). Ten successful catheterizations performed infants weighing ≤5 functional failure class improved significantly There three documented mortalities, none procedure. No significant difference patient groups regarding hospital stay or survival (P=0.660, P=0.791, Conclusions: After surgery, be safe effective closure. It can applied various variety satisfactory results. Moreover, specific VSD, even small infants.
