ABSTRACT
Esophageal cancer is one of the leading causes death worldwide. A deeper understanding trends in annual incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) esophageal critical for management prevention. In this study, we report on disease burden 204 countries territories between 1990 2019 by age, sex, sociodemographic index (SDI).Data DALYs were extracted from Global Burden Diseases, Injuries, Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019. The estimated numbers age-standardized rates are presented paper, as well to All estimates counts per 100,000 population, with 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs) each estimate. In 2019, nearly 535,000 (95% UI: 467,000-595,000) new cases occurred globally. was responsible more than 498,000 438,000-551,000) deaths 11.7 million 10.4-12.9 million) DALYs. Worldwide cancer, including deaths, DALYs, have declined since 1990. However, differ across territories. Notably, there a nonlinear but generally inverse correlation DALY SDI. Higher incidence observed males compared females, both increased age. Regarding risk factors, smoking, alcohol use, high body-mass 3 predominant contributors sexes worldwide. This study found global reduction burden, substantial heterogeneity remains regions countries. Hence, identification high-risk groups exploration specific local strategies primary prevention efforts required.
