ABSTRACT
Data regarding the incidence and risk factors of pneumothorax following pre-procedural ultrasound (US)-guided thoracentesis is scarce. We aimed to evaluate US-guided in a tertiary medical center.Retrospective analysis patients who underwent Sheba Medical Center between January 2016 December 2018. collected included thoracentesis, baseline clinical demographic characteristics, thoracentesis-associated factors. Outcomes evaluated length hospital stay, mortality, chest tube insertion intensive care unit admission.A total 550 with pleural effusions thoracentesis. Sixty-six (12%) them developed pneumothorax. Compared did not develop pneumothorax, those had higher rate congestive heart failure (32.2% vs. 47%, P=0.026), smaller depth fluid marking (3.4 3.2 cm, P=0.024), larger amount drained (1,093 903.5 mL, P=0.01), were more likely undergo bilateral procedures (7.6% 2.3%, P=0.044). In multivariate regression analysis, volume was significantly associated development (OR, 1.001, 95% CI, 1-1.001; P=0.042).The relatively high present study. The main factor developing these cases.
