ABSTRACT
Benign strictures of the colon and rectum affect a sizable portion patients who have an underlying inflammatory disease or undergone recent surgery. Etiologies include bowel (IBD), post-surgical ischemia, anastomotic strictures, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), complicated diverticulitis. Refractory colorectal are very difficult to manage often require repeated different treatment options. We report novel technique using argon plasma coagulation (APC) with endoscopic balloon dilation (EBD) as safe effective modality for refractory benign strictures. Four symptomatic were referred treatment. In all cases (two females two males; average age 62 years), radiographic assessment showed significant (diameter, 4-13 mm). The stricture was secondary Crohn's in one patient other three patients. Endoscopic stricturotomy through fulguration tissue destruction at 1.5 liters/minute, effect 2, 40 watts performed, followed by EBD. All treated advanced endoscopist. primary outcomes efficiency safety pulsed dilation. resolution achieved No complications reported. believe that combined APC EBD is colonic stricture.
