ABSTRACT
Background: The current U.S. orthopaedic residency application process is becoming increasingly impersonal in the wake of an increasing number applications. Through analysis surgery statistics, we have highlighted effect that applications has on match rate, and suggested methods for a more personalized process. Methods: Data from Association American Medical Colleges (AAMC) National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) United States applicants 2008 to 2018 were collected. These data included average submitted per applicant, received program, total positions offered U.S., applicants, who matched program. applicant rates position calculated. Linear regression models used determine rate at which these variables changed over time. Results: by increased 46.5 74.9 2018. 54.1 85.7 was 740 849 programs only slightly 160 171 medical school remained stable mean 76.9% standard deviation 2.3%. Conclusions: despite increase position.
