ABSTRACT
The torn hamstring is a common athletic injury. purpose of the present study was to review clinical presentation this injury, diagnostic imaging findings, surgical technique reattachment, and likely outcome surgery for treatment avulsion proximal origin.Seventy-two consecutive reconstructions in seventy-one patients with origin were performed at single center. mean age time operation 40.2 years. duration follow-up twenty-four months, all minimum six months included. There no exclusions. Patients independently reviewed, postoperative isotonic strength compared that on uninjured side.Waterskiing most frequent cause injury (twenty-one cases). between twelve months. pathological finding complete (sixty-three cases; 87.5%), retraction 7 cm (range, 0 20 cm). measured 84% 43% 122%) endurance 89% 26% 161%) when values contralateral side.It important distinguish avulsions (for which we recommend early repair) from majority muscle injuries (which respond well nonoperative treatment). suggests that, cases retraction, delay repair renders more technically challenging, may increase likelihood sciatic nerve involvement, increases need bracing, reduces terms endurance. Once nature has been established, predictable satisfactory results.
